7TH BANBURY SCOUT GROUP

Fundraising

7th Banbury Scout Group, like all scout groups, is a registered charity. As well as the cost of the weekly activities, and the overhead to look after our fantastic headquarters, we also have big plans for the future which will need funding. All of our income is either from the subs your child pays, or from our fundraising. To keep the weekly subs down, we try and do as much fundraising as possible during the year, and try to make it as fun as possible!

WHAT ARE WE RAISING FUNDS FOR?

We are currently in need of an extension to our stores.

Whilst our new hut does have plenty of storage space, most of it is upstairs, and this makes it difficult when it comes to storing larger, heavier items such as patrol tents, mess tents, camping benches & tables, etc which we don't want to keep carrying up and down stairs. We are planning to build a large stores next to the hut to store this, and other equipment in. The space in the hut can then be used more efficiently for storing items such as our Pedal Cars!

We are still in the early stages of planning, so we don't yet know how much we need to raise, but that isn't stopping us starting the fundraising early!

We are also looking for adults to help on a sub-committee which will look after the project, so if you think you can help, let us know!

How can I help?

The best thing about our fundraising events, is that we try to make them as fun as possible, and hope that you get something out of them too. From our quiz nights, to helping out at Fairport's Cropredy Convention, we hope to make the fundraising enjoyable!

Current Fundraising events:

Bag Packing

This takes place at various times during the year, and at vartious stores in Banbury. We look for beavers & parents to stand with collecting buckets, and cubs & scouts to bag pack on the tills. We operate in shifts, so you can choose to only do an hour, or help for the whole day!

Quiz Nights

These take place twice a year, usually in November and March, at the fantastic location of Banbury's Pinto Lounge! Anybody can enter, in teams of 2-6 people, and there are prizes for each round, as well as an overall winners prize! There is a small entry fee per person, but these brilliant evenings have become one of the parents and leaders favouite events in the calendar.

Santa Float

This takes place during the run-up to Christmas each year, and involves collecting money door to door with the Banbury Cross Round Table Santa Float. We look for parents to help with the door to door collecting, and they can bring their children along too if they wish.

Next Event: December 2022

Sponsored Walk

This takes place every other year, when the Broughton Church Fete isn't on. The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are encouraged to walk around Banbury Circular Walk, with the Beavers aiming for 5 miles, the Cubs 10 miles, and the Scouts 15 miles. Parents can walk with their children, and we raise the money by encouraging the children to get sponsorship from friends or family, either per mile, or for the whole distance.

Fairport's Cropredy Convention

This takes place every year in August, and has become one of the biggest fundraisers of the year. We work as a team, as part of Ron's Crew, to help with the car parking, litter collecting and bin emptying at Fairport's Cropredy Convention. We'll be looking for older scouts and parents to be a part of the 7th Banbury team, and as well as the donation the group receives for helping, all helpers also get free entry to the festival when not on duty, and a free t-shirt!

Next Event: 11th-13th August 2022

Broughton Church Fete

This takes place every other year, usually in June. We are invited by the organisers of the Broughton Church Fete to help out with setting up, parking cars, and running stalls/games for the day, and we are then given a donation based on our assistance. We'll be looking for parents to help in shifts with or without children, at one of the most popular fetes in the local area, in the beautiful surroundings of Broughton Castle.

Next Event: June 2022
